HUDSON WATCH 2008

We are under a Hudson Watch and the forecast calls for showers; baby showers! While we've been trying to go about our daily lives blocking out the fact that Hudson will be here any day now, we've been keeping ourselves busy with two things: nesting and baby showers.

Both of our workplaces were generous enough to throw us some fabulous showers and the V-Family hosted one at our home this weekend in Dallas. We are so grateful to all and had so much fun that we weren't able to snap enough photos. Really, here are the few that we did manage to get. Some of these were actually taken by Fayte.

Daddy's ad firm already wants to put him to work!

Cake balls! These are sooooo good.

Aunt KJ And Uncle Nate

And as far as the nesting instinct goes, we've been full speed ahead in trying to create the perfect home for Hudson. His new crib came in just in time and after a trip to Home Depot for some hardware, we were able to patch the parts of the old crib together to form a matching day bed for his room. Take a look:

Cooper the Longhorn enjoys Hudson's new crib

And here's the matching day bed

We also gave this old bookcase new life with some cool wrapping paper. Cheap DIY job.

Here's the same trick on one of Fayte's bookcases.

While we were picking up the hardware for the daybed, we also picked up some peg board for 5 bucks. After painting it chalkboard green, it became the perfect organization item for Fayte's school area in our studio.

Well white rug, it was nice to know you.

Can't wait to add the fourth frame to the mantle!

Well, this should be the last post before the Le Unit becomes a 4-member group. The big day should be next Friday or sooner. Until then, it's Hudson Watch 2008. Wish us luck!

IT'S 112 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND YES I'M STILL PREGNANT

Although it's become unbelievably uncomfortable with the temperature usually still hovering around 99 degrees at bed time, we've been doing what we can around the house to make sure Hudson feels as comfy and cozy as he possibly can when he arrives. We're shooting for an end-of-the-month arrival, but now that it's been 9 months, it's really any day now. As you can tell from the little polaroid up there, he's a low-rider and he's been extremely active to boot. Perhaps its because his home has recently begun to experience earthquakes. In other words, the lovely Braxton Hicks contractions have already started. We'll keep you posted. Check back often as we'll be live-blogging the labor and delivery! (Kidding.)

The bassinet is ready to go!

And we've built a mobile to match his woodland themed walls.

We were pretty pumped to find this book in one of our old moving boxes.

And we were also suckers for this little guy.

Perhaps you've heard that we won a Jonathan Adler designed giraffe sconce from Apartment Therapy! Finally, some good luck this year.

Fayte sings a song to Hudson.

Fayte enjoying the new family-sized mid-century sofa. We ordered this way back before the lightning fiasco when we moved and it just now came in!

Not to be outdone by her brother, Fayte had to have some branches on her wall as well!

29 Weeks

We're in the home stretch and have entered the third and final trimester. Hudson now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. We are taking some 3D ultrasounds on Friday and will be sure to post a big update. When we took 3D ultrasounds of Fayte, the images turned out to be pretty accurate so we are VERY excited to get a sneak peek this week.

Speaking of things growing at our house, check out this picture we snapped a couple weeks ago! We didn't think our persimmon tree would bear fruit until around October, but recently we've noticed hundreds of these little orbs popping up seemingly overnight!

We also made it past the salmonella scare by enjoying Fayte's very own homegrown tomatoes. Besides watering her plants, Fayte's been enjoying her Summer at the local pool and rooting for Daddy at his softball games. As if it wasn't bad enough that an opponent struck out the other night, Fayte added insult to injury by running up to the fence and shouting "YAY!!!!!" You know its a bad night when a 2-year old heckles you from the stands.

Fayte's also been spending her summer attending class and working on lessons at The Le Academy For Talented and Gifted Children Named Fayte. The student to teacher ratio is 1:1 and she's on full scholarship. The faculty is top-notch if I do say so myself!

BIG OL' MAY UPDATE

With all the traveling that comes with weddings, graduations, shoots and conferences, believe it or not, we were able to redo Hudson and Fayte's bathroom (even though we didn't plan on taking on such a project). It all began on mothers day when we tugged on a small corner of wallpaper that had begun to peel. Unlike the kitchen, there was only 1 layer and it peeled off easily. So, within 30 minutes, we spontaneously had the walls stripped! In less than 24 hours, we had the room textured, painted and styled with coastal accents to go along with the kids' aquarium and fish towels and floor mat. We're not quite there yet as you can see, but here are some before and afters.

Fayte's been quite a trooper lately during all of this traveling. Part of the reason is because she's a ham and loves the attention she receives at large family functions. Another part of this is because she knows she gets special treats during trips. Here's a verbatim conversation just last week:

Fayte: Daddy's going on an airplane to LA.
Mommy: No, Daddy's going to Boston this week.
Fayte: Daddy's going on an airplane to Boston to buy me a new dress!

We're in trouble. Here's a nice little number she got from the last shoot in LA courtesy of H&M...

As you can tell from the pictures, Fayte's been a happy little booger lately who enjoys singing, drawing, helping Mommy in the garden and of course trying on dresses. She's also become quite adept at saying her nightly prayers. The good little Catholic has the Our Father and the Hail Mary down though she gets away with some mumbling here in this clip:

We'll have to get better about posting videos soon. As always, you can view selected videos from Fayte TV in the YouTube bar to the right, or click on "Videos" in the categories section to pull up all of the video posts from this blog.

As for Hudson, at 6 months, he's still demanding meat and potatoes everyday. Right now he measures a foot long (the length of an ear of corn) and weighs over a pound. He's hanging out much lower than Fayte use to so there's definitely a "beach ball" effect this time. Like Fayte, he is really active at night and his kicks and punches are strong enough to be seen with the naked eye. Fayte has been getting a kick out of it. Sorry, there's still an embargo on pregnancy photos, but perhaps that will be lifted toward the end of the pregnancy.

Well, thats it for now. We'll post again soon. Take care.

THE LAST HOME IN DALLAS TO HAVE POWER

Finally! We've had our power restored and can finally start posting about more enjoyable things like Fayte and Hudson. *Yes, that is the "working title," but we think it'll stick as New York is a place we hold dear in our hearts and the Hudson River's where Khoa grew up.

Anyway, the paper sent a writer and photographer out to do a follow up story on us and the electric company rushed out when they heard. While being interviewed, the electric company was able to restore power just before another wave of wind and hail hit. It was just in time too since it was just the Le Ladies at home this week with the head of the Le household conveniently shooting in LA. Here's the story that ran on the front page of the local section this week:

Almost two weeks after storms, Dallas family finally has power back

07:45 AM CDT on Thursday, April 24, 2008

By HOLLY YAN / The Dallas Morning News

It took 13 days and 13 nights, but the Le family finally came out of the dark ages.

They have a working refrigerator.

A stove to cook on.

And, the mother of all luxuries, air-conditioning.

Actually, they had all these conveniences, just no electricity to make them work.

That came Tuesday night when the Les' home became the last of 250,000 households to have their power restored after storms whipped through North Texas on April 10.

"I didn't realize how dependent I was on electricity," Desiree Le said in her hot and humid home Tuesday evening. "Even my can opener is electric."

The power outage has been a drain on the northwest Dallas family, to say the least.

"We can't do laundry, can't vacuum, can't save any food," Ms. Le said shortly before the electricity came on.

Ms. Lee and her 2-year-old daughter, Fayte, had to make daily shopping trips to the grocery store and rely on takeout for most dinners.

"Every day, I go to CVS and pick up milk for her," Ms. Le said, "and put it in a cooler."

When the storms hit that early Thursday morning, lightning downed an oak tree in the Les' back yard. A live power line snapped, flying precariously close to Ms. Le's bedroom.

"I saw the light, and I woke up," she said. "The live wire was sparking everywhere."

The storm left a hole – about a foot in diameter – in the roof, and bricks in the exterior wall were cracked. And an electrician told the Les that the electrical box was probably destroyed by lightning.

Those complications caused the lengthy process of getting power restored.

An Oncor work crew told the family that power couldn't be restored to the house until the Les had an electrician replace the damaged electrical box and repair a mast on the roof.

An electrician couldn't replace the box until a contractor fixed the cracked brick wall and patched the hole in the roof.

And before any of that work could begin, an insurance adjuster was required to inspect the damage.

The insurance adjuster initially said he couldn't stop by until the following week.

"I said, 'No, no, no. [I'm] five months' pregnant, I have a 2-year-old, and I've already had to deal with this for five days," Ms. Le said.

Ms. Le said she spent three to four hours on the phone every day coordinating all the necessary steps to get the power back on.

She had to negotiate with electricians to get an affordable price to repair the electrical box. Often she had to bolt home from her teaching job at Cary Middle School to meet workers for estimates.

"I called five different roofers because no one could come out to do it," she said. "Finally we found a decent roofing guy."

Even using the phone was a rationed luxury. Without electricity to charge her cellphone, Ms. Le would plug the phone in at work or charge it with her car battery.

Her husband, Khoa, had to stay at work late because he needed a computer and Internet access for his advertising job.

With Mr. Le out of town this week for a business trip, Ms. Le was uneasy that the home security alarm wasn't working.

Fayte also had a hard time adjusting.

"Not being able to make what she wants is the hardest thing," Ms. Le said. "She'd open the fridge and say, 'This is broken.' "

Ms. Le's pregnancy cravings for meat and potatoes had to go unfulfilled.

"At night, I get hungry. I go over to the fridge" – and curse, she said.

Last week, during a chilly evening, Mr. and Ms. Le heated their house from the fireplace. But when temperatures reached almost 90 degrees this week, Ms. Le found little comfort in the stuffy home.

"It's very hot when you've got a few extra pounds," she said.

Even without electricity, Ms. Le still walked around and instinctively flicked on light switches. Most of their light came from a $45 handheld lantern. That came to a halt about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, when two Oncor workers came to restore the power. About half an hour later, the Les were finally thrust back into modern life.

"We've got fans! We've got lights!" Ms. Le exulted as she ran inside her home.

Though she teaches history every day, Ms. Le never thought she would have to live it.

"You hear about life in cabins," she said, "but you don't have any conception of what life is like until you don't have electricity."

BREAKING NEWS: IT'S A BOY!

...and we're changing the name...probably. More to come late this week (pix), but here is the ultrasound. The first half is pretty much an anatomy lesson. The second half is where you can see Fayte's little brother grabbing his toes, rolling around, and relaxing with one arm folded behind his head. We couldn't be more ecstatic.

OLIVE/LEIGHTON JUST KEEPS GROWING

Olive/Leighton is 16 weeks old this week and is roughly the size of an avocado now and in the next three weeks, he/she will double in weight! Plus there's no mistaking it. This baby likes to kick! Perhaps Olive/Leighton is trying to keep up with Fayte's Beckham-esque soccer playing lately. We've been lavishing praise on her and after all, the baby can now hear from inside of the womb.

Speaking of Fayte, here's some random art of the two Le Ladies jogging up our street.

OLIVE/LEIGHTON, BOOTY-SHAKIN' AT WEEK 15

We've reached week 15 in the pregnancy and the biggest news this week is that Fayte is now able to feel her little brother/sister kicking and squirming for the first time! We are very excited about that. The baby has been just as active as he/she was in the 9 week ultrasound. We've still got one more doctor's visit before the next ultrasound in which we'll find out the answer to the big question, but in the mean time, please vote in the poll to your right. There are clues that pertain to some old wives tales over there, but here's another: the baby's heart rate the last two visits has been very high. Anyway, your guess is as good as ours.

In case you weren't around during the beginnings of this new blog, here is our first photo of Olive/Leighton:

And for those of you who prefer to watch TV:

As always, you can view previous posts about Olive/Leighton by clicking on "Baby" under the categories to the right.

SECOND TRIMESTERVILLE, POPULATION: ME

Today, Olive/Leighton is the size of a lime! Pretty unbelievable considering that he/she was the size of a grape only 3 weeks ago. We're just hoping that this time, the baby will be smaller than Fayte, who as you recall was a whopping 8 pounds and 10 ounces. We're a little worried because she amassed all that weight eating fresh tomatoes the whole pregnancy. This time, it's been nothing but meat and potatoes. We can already tell that Fayte and the new baby will not get along come dinner time.

Something that's also pretty unbelievable is that the baby's already making itself felt! It's very exciting to have that so early on this time. And yes according to Su Chin, the baby's got fingernails. If you're wondering what that means, go see Juno. We finally saw it at Dallas's equivalent of the Alamo Drafthouse last weekend and thought it was hilarious and deserving of the shiny gold men its nominated for. EVERY movie theatre should serve an extensive dinner menu and feature comfy executive recliners, right Fayte?

COMING FALL 2008: OLIVE/LEIGHTON LE!

It's true! The reason behind the launch of this new blog is because our family is growing. In September '08, Olive or Leighton Le will join the Le Unit and rather than creating a new blog that mirrors Fayte's, we've decided to document both of our little monsters' growth and development all on this one corner of the Web. We are truly blessed and very excited to share this new chapter in our lives with you. Bookmark us and visit frequently. With two little Le's running around, there ought to be plenty to blog about.

Olive/Leighton, the size of a grape, at 9 weeks (Click for a close up)

So far the pregnancy has been going smoothly despite morning sickness and dizziness, probably on account of the fact that Olive/Leighton is a very active swimmer who likes to flail his/her newfound limbs about. As for cravings, unlike Fayte, who was a healthy eater, Olive/Leighton is a burger and TexMex lovin' fool! No complaints from Dad (the original Big Mac).

Update: We were able to transfer the video onto our Macs though YouTube makes the grainy ultrasound even grainier. You can see some dancing going on toward the end of the clip.
